Cone Head Mitzy

Sometimes pictures aren't always taken for fun. Last week we found a white bump on the back of Mitzy's paw. We thought it was just a bite, but it ended up being a small tumor. She will be fine, but she is not very happy about being called Mitzy the Cone Head Wonder Dog.

The Fight

Today Mitzy and I wanted to experiment with movement and photography. Before I could grab my fast lens, Mitzy was knocking on Kiki's, door asking her to come play. She knows that when the two of them get together, they wrestle for hours. Kiki is a spunky Schipeerkee who has more energy than a two year old.

In case you are afraid of Kiki's sharp teeth, I posted an older photo of her so that you can see she is really a sweet dog. The teeth are just for show (and implanted last month by the same surgeon who did Mitzy's butt. Just Kidding!

Who New Dogs Laughed?

I recently did a photo shoot with Mitzy and Bruno, Mitzy's neighbor.

This shoot was very memorable for two reasons: one, we learned from smiling Bruno that dogs can laugh, and two, we used the biggest and most extravagant dog beds I have ever seen in my life. Before the beds were brought into the studio, I had pictured small fluffy target styled beds. Instead, they were huge and lavish throwns...no wonder Bruno was smiling. If I had a bed like his, I would be smiling all day long.

Mitzy would like to give special thanks to Bruno's owner, Juan, for submitting a couple of photos to this entry. She also wants to thank Bruno for coming over to try out the dog beds. Mitzy agrees that it was hard to choose which one she liked the best because they were both so cool.

Dogs Do Yoga

I know that I said this blog was mainly about dog photography, but after seeing Mitzy do yoga this morning, I had to make an exception. Who would have known that dogs actually do yoga. Yes, every Sunday in my yoga class we do the Downward Facing Dog position, but I never thought that the pose came from an actual dog movement...you learn something new everyday.

So now she's not just Mitzy the Wonder Dog, She's Mitzy the Yoga Doing Wonder Dog. Ruff!

East Coast Photo Shoot

Unfortunately Mitzy was not there during Cooper, Jackson, and Olivers' East Coast photo shoots. She hates the snow and didn't want to miss a day of sun tanning, so she stayed in California while I ventured to the cold side.

I have to admit, Jackson was the best model out of the three of them. The cute little Shitzu struck a pose every time I pointed the camera at him. He even did the sexy side pose that George did on Seinfeld. You know the one, where George poses naked on a velvet carpet...

Cooper, the Bichon Frise, has the biggest eyes I have ever seen on a dog. His eyes look more like human eyes than dog eyes. Luckily he had a calm personality and allowed me to take many pictures of him all around the house. I even got a picture of him poking his head through the balcony poles. What a funny dog.

The last East Coast photo shoot was with Oliver the Black Lab. Oliver is a puppy with such an interest in life, he rarely holds still. I used my 1.4 lens to capture his quick movement. After showing him his pictures, he explained that he aspires to become a better model than Jackson.

The Mitzy and Sienna Photo Shoot

Mitzy's best friend in the entire world is Sienna. If we say Sienna's name in front of Mitzy she runs to the front door. Therefore, we have to refer to Sienna as "S" unless we know she is really coming over.

Their photo shoot was a blast. The dogs had fun playing with the different toys together and also posing in the spotlight alone. Sienna is very good a posing and staying still for the camera. She even enjoys wearing clothes. Although we had no Gucci, she seemed fine settling with clothes from the local pet shop. It is always easier to work with dogs that are more down to earth.
